William “Bill” Gene Flanigan, 96, of Lexington, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO. 

 

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 24 at 5:30 PM at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 S. St., Lexington, MO (660-259-2245). A visitation will follow from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 24. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 25 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 107 N. 18th St, Lexington, MO. Bill was born on December 11, 1927, in rural Lexington, MO to William Douglas and Anna Lorena (Lovell) Flanigan. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, served in World War II, and earned the World War II Victory Medal. On June 12, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Zeller at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lexington, MO. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2014. Bill traveled and worked as an Engineer for McDonnell Douglas and Boeing for over 30 years before returning to Lexington to enjoy his retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4052 in Lexington, a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). He served many years on the Lexington Planning and Zoning Committee and wrote many ordinances for the city. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Bill enjoyed building computers, researching his family's genealogy, and driving around the country with Barbara.

 

Bill is survived by his son William N. (Glenda); daughters-in-law Diana and Nancy; grandchildren Douglas, Maggie, Nicholas, Abby, Katy, Cole, William J., Michael T., Mallory, Amanda, Andrew, and Patrick; great grandchildren Haddie, Datch, Koda, Brynne, Landry, Maddie, Kersten, Maci, Grady, Kayln, Titus, Tenley, Matilda, Ivy, Ruth, Daysie, Aengus, and Cecilia; sisters Dorothy, Hazel, and Patsy (Gordon); brothers Lawrence “Ed” (Margaret), Charles “Donny” (Mary), and Alvin “Lee” (Marsha); and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by son Michael E.; sister Mary; and brothers Patrick “Pat” and Thomas “Tommy.”
