Walter Lee Mayberry Jr.

Walter Lee Mayberry, Jr. was born on July 3, 1935 to Geraldine Cahill and Walter Mayberry, Sr. and was the 3rd child of eight.

He attended Douglas High School in Lexington, MO and began boxing in the Golden Gloves. At age 19, he entered the United States Army and served in Communications. While serving, he reached the rank of Sergeant and began boxing in the European Boxing Circuit. In 1957 he came out of active duty from the Army.

On December 22, 1960 he married Jean Carolyn Boldridge (Hannon). He began working at Ford Motor Company, Claycomo plant in 1968 where he worked for more than 27 years and retired in 1992. He was a member of the UAW Local 249. He took on many ventures in his life such as opening a farmer’s market store in Lexington, MO. He belonged to the Dixon Lodge No. 11 F&M of Lexington, MO where he became a Master Mason. He always worked hard in everything that he did and dedicated his life to his family because family was very important to him and always came first.

He retired from the National Guard in 1995 after 27 years of service and also opened a restaurant, Mayberry’s Best BBQ.

He married Rev. Annie Ruth Wright in 1996, was a lifelong resident of Odessa, MO and lifelong member of St. James AME Church in Odessa where he served the Lord faithfully and diligently. And of all the things he did in life, his greatest accomplishment was being a servant of the Most High God.

Walter answered the Master’s Call on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Rev. Annie Mayberry of Kansas City, MO; children, Linda Collins (Ralph) of Higginsville, MO, Michael Boldridge of Liberty, MO, Rev. Gary Mayberry (Anita) of Raytown, MO, Rhonda Mayberry (Kevin) of Odessa, MO, Walter Mayberry III of Odessa, MO, Tonya Mayberry of Higginsville, MO, Rondy Wright of Kansas City, MO, Travis Wright of Kansas City, MO and Tracy Wright of Kansas City, MO; 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Turner Lillard of Odessa, MO, 1 brother, Gerald Mayberry of Kansas City, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and Walter Mayberry, Sr., wife, Jean Mayberry, 1 son, Kevin Mayberry, 1 daughter, Deborah Boldridge, 3 brothers, John Mayberry, Harry Mayberry, and Robert Leon, 2 sisters Fleeta Mae Williams and Rita Joyce, 1 grandson, Aaron Mayberry, 1 granddaughter, Michelle Boldridge and 3 great grandsons; Xavier Mayberry, Kaden, and Keaton Boldridge.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior starting at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016. Burial with Military Rites will be at the Odessa Cemetery.
