Virginia B Pate

Virginia B. (Grayer) Pate, 88, of Oak Grove, Missouri, (formerly of Odessa) passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2021, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd Street, Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens Cemetery in Independence, MO. Virginia was born on October 19, 1933, to Kinzy and Darcy Louzella (Cottingham) Grayer in Independence, MO. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO. On May 1, 1953, Virginia was united in marriage to Lloyd D. Pate in Independence, MO. He preceded her in death. She worked on the assembly line for Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO for over 20 years, prior to working as a cashier for Dollar General in Oak Grove, MO. Virginia was a member of the Odessa Community of Christ Church. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed crafts, junking with her sisters, and being “mom” to everyone.

Survivors include a daughter, Shawna Pate of Independence, MO; two sons, Lloyd Brent Pate (Christina) of Grain Valley, MO, and Burl Pate (Minda) of Blue Springs, MO; a sister, Mary Huffman of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Dina Cowan (Ariel), Ryan Pate, Kyle Pate (Emily), and Ashlynn Pate; three great grandchildren, Aliana, Briella, and Ellie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kinzy Grayer, Jr.; four sisters, Darcy Temple, Betty Rice, Norma Hightower, and Martha Parker; a daughter, Sheila Ann Pate; and a son in law, Ed Mohler.
