Virginia Jacqueline (Wilhoit) Mautino, 94, passed away on May 16, 2022, in Independence. Virginia was born July 27, 1927, in Brunswick, Missouri to Walker and Frances Mabel Wilhoit. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1945. Virginia married Joseph Mautino in 1949, and they moved to Wellington in 1951. Together they enjoyed traveling across the world and volunteered with numerous civic organizations. She helped start the first kindergarten class in Wellington in 1960. She also enjoyed painting, ceramics, needle point, quilting and was an avid reader. In September 2017, she was honored to serve as a Wellington parade marshall with other women celebrating 90 years of life.
Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family. Her daughter, JoLynne (Mautino) Soendker, and grandchildren Nathan (Ania) Soendker, Trista (Sean) Soendker Nicholson, Jenna (Andrew) King, Alyssa (Brett) Gifford, and Tianna (Bradley) Miller. Her great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. She was always excited to spend time with Nikolai, Judah, Abram, Henry, Isla, Katherine, Gianna, Jack, Caroline, Adria, Arlo, and soon-to-be-welcomed Emilia, who she was delighted would “make an even dozen.”
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents, brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Geraldine Wilhoit, and son-in-law, Ronald Soendker.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 10:00 am at Wellington Cemetery, Wellington, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to Shriners Hospital for Children or St Jude’s Hospital and may be left in care with Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd Street, Odessa, MO 64076, 816-633-5524.
