Stephen Johnston Carter, 74, of Blue Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 11 at the Jackson Creek Nursing Home, Independence. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 18 at 10:00 at the Catholic Church of the Santa Fe, Buckner. Visitation will be Monday, April 17 from 6:00 to 8:00pm, also at the church, with the Rosary at 6:00.
Stephen was born October 11, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to Lee S. and Gladys M. Johnston Carter. He moved to Richmond as a teenager and attended Richmond High School and Finley Engineering College. He married Patricia Neer on June 11, 1966 in Richmond. Stephen worked as an Environmental Engineer for the City of Independence and retired in 2012.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat Carter; two daughters, Stephanie Carter-Martin and friend Kim Youngs and Leah Carter-Heinrich and husband Jimmy Heinrich; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Summer, Samantha, Ace, Ares, Skye Ann, Phoenix and Sistine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Joene Carter.
Stephen was loved and will be dearly missed by his family. "Papa" will be remembered for his loving kindness and wonderful vacations with his children and grandchildren.
