Leland Douglas Franklin, 79, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Research Medical Center, Vitas Hospice Care in Kansas City, MO. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Dover Cemetery in Dover, MO. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Dover Cemetery. www.ralphojones.com. Leland was born on July 22, 1933in Hodge, MO to William Bryan and Charlotte Elizabeth (Frizzell) Franklin. After high school he served in the United States Air Force. He married Karen Darlene Mills on April 9, 1957 in New Mexico who survives of the home. In June of 1989 he retired from the General Motors Leeds Plant in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the UAW Local 93. In his spare time he could be found hunting and fishing. One of the ways he would help others out is by donating blood when possible. In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Leland B. Franklin and companion Nancy Harrington of Independence, MO, Karen M. Franklin of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey N. Renick and Carter S. Renick; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two children, Dawn Susan Wheeler and Pamela Sue Franklin; three brothers, Jennings Franklin, Leon Franklin, Carl Franklin and an infant sister.
