Viola Bernice Barker

Viola Bernice Barker, 85, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa, MO Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Odessa, MO with Reverend Terry Hodges officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Greenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist church Building Fund. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ralphojones.com or on our Facebook page. Bernice was born on January 4, 1928 in Wellington, MO to Daniel and Georgia Ann (Booker) Murry. On December 30, 1944 Bernice was united in marriage to Charles Wayne Barker, Sr. in Olathe, KS. She retired in 1993 from the Odessa School System as a Cook in the Cafeteria. She worked many years at McQuerry Elementary and the Odessa High School. Bernice and C.W. are members of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. They were both baptized on August 3, 1944 and have been members since. She loved cooking, playing cards, dancing, singing, entertaining, and playing the guitar. She loved her family and spending time with them. In addition to her husband C.W. Barker, Bernice is survived by four children, Janice Kratz and husband Gary of Odessa, C.W. Barker, Jr. and wife Jo Ann of Odessa, Rick Barker and wife Vickie of Odessa and Connie D. Stanton and husband Larry of Liberty, MO; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Murry and wife Alline of Odessa and Kenneth Murry and wife Betty of Odessa; two sisters, Esther (Rodenberg) Brockmeyer of Odessa and Reba Owings and husband Don of Odessa; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joni and Darrell Barker; two brothers, Gene and Milford Murry; and four sisters, Gracie (Ailor) Knight, Edna Browning Grubb, Alberta (Tootie) Brown and Clydie Belle Adams.
