Roy Douglas “Doug” Fizer, 78 of Linneus, Missouri passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Per Doug’s wishes, cremation with no services. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warriors. Doug was born on November 8, 1946, in Odessa, MO to Roy Junior and Georgia Alene (Dyer) Fizer. He graduated in 1964 from Odessa High School in Odessa, MO. After high school Doug enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving, Doug earned the National Defense Service Medal. On December 12, 1969, Doug was united in marriage to Linda Kay Hawthorne. Linda preceded him in death on May 31, 1984. Doug worked many years in heavy construction before retiring and was a member of the Laborers’ Internation Union of North America, Local Union 220. He was also a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Odessa, MO, a Cub Scout, and Eagle Scout. Doug was an avid sports fan and coached his son’s little league baseball team. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Doug enjoyed fishing in the mountains and streams of California, playing golf, and playing in softball leagues.
Doug is survived by two children, Shellie Fizer of Bronx, New York and Corey Fizer of Odessa, MO; two sisters, Kay Lueck of Odessa, MO and Karla McCulloch and husband Gary of Jacksonville, Illinois; two brothers, Mike Fizer and wife Edith of Linneus, MO and Keith Fizer of Amarillo, Texas; a brother-in-law, Charles Yates of Amarillo, TX; and many relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Doug was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Yates; and a brother-in-law, Dale Lueck.
