Roy was born on October 2, 1936 to August Herman Drecktrah and Anita Marie (Jungeblut) Drecktrah in Independence, MO. He was the youngest of six children, with four older sisters and one older brother. The family resided in Napoleon, MO.

Roy graduated from Wellington High School in 1954.

After graduation, Roy enlisted in the Army on November 29, 1954. He obtained the rank of Sargent. He was stationed in Fort Carson, CO and was awarded the good conduct medal. While in the Army, he spent his off duty time with his mother's first cousin's family, Alvin and Lenora Jungeblut. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1957.

After his discharge, Roy returned to the Napoleon area and helped with the family farm and had a few other jobs like helping with the construction of 24 Highway. He lost his high school class ring during this time, and it is buried somewhere in the concrete between Wellington and Lexington.

Roy then became a police officer for some time in Kansas City. In the meantime the girl next door caught his eye and on April 23, 1960, he married Helen Irene Dieckmann.

His next job landed him at the Post Office in Sugar Creek, MO. Roy carried mail on the same route for 32 years. He walked about 13 miles every day, rain or shine. He said he never did get bit by a dog, but did have a dog that would walk with him a few blocks every day. Roy hated when the 3" JC Penny and Sears catalogs came out twice a year, since they made for a very sore shoulder at the end of the day.

Roy and Helen lived in Independence, MO for a short time and then moved in with Helen's parents, Clemmons and Irene Dieckmann, while building their home. Their daughter Connie Marie, was born May 20, 1961, and the three of them moved into the new house shortly after. A son, Robert Allan, was later born on September 30th, 1964.
Roy retired from the Post Office in 1992.
After retirement, Roy worked at Del-Rod with Delbert Rodenberg in Napoleon. Roberta and Helen were not ever sure exactly how much work ever got done though.

Roy was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Evelyn, in 1964 and Bernice in 1975. His father, August, passed in 1971 and his mother, Anita, passed in 1980. His wife of 55 years passed on October 6, 2015.

Roy is survived by his Daughter, Connie and her husband, Scott McCarthy; a son, Robert and his wife, Lisa all of Napoleon, MO; grandchildren, Justin & Nicole McCarthy, Kelsey McCarthy, Bryce Drecktrah, Brett & Cody Fairchild and Elijah Adams; two sisters, Lorene Dieckman and Mabel Selders; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond & Carolyn Drecktrah; a sister in law and her husband, Lorraine and Azro Fisk; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Roy was a member of the St. Paul Church in Napoleon.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Dieckman, Barry Drecktrah, Brad Drecktrah, Brian Drecktrah, Bruce Drecktrah, Curtis Fisk, and James Fisk.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Fisk.
