ROBERT LEE WARNER
Robert Lee Warner, 84, of Lexington, MO passed away May 8, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 South St., Lexington, MO (660-259-2245. Inurnment in the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery, Higginsville, MO with military rites. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday, May 31. Memorials in Bob's memory can be made to the Lexington United Methodist Church or Crossroads Hospice.
Robert was born September 7, 1931 in Nevada, MO, the son of Zach and Lillian Harper Warner. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and the Wentworth Military Academy.
He is survived by his wife Jerry Warner, daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Shinn. They were married in February 1954 and raised three children, Robert Alan Warner residing in Franklin, NH; Susan Elizabeth Zanchi residing in Loma Rica, CA and Scott Lee Warner of Reno, NV. There are also five grandchildren, Leah Warner, Dominic Aguilar, Jeremy Warner, Ethan Warner and Tyler Zanchi as well as one great-grandson, Malaki Warner.
Mr. Warner served in the US Army including a tour of duty in France where his second child, Susan was Born. Although he served a single tour of duty in the Army, the majority of his subsequent career as a civilian was in support of the US military, most notably the US Air Force.
Mr. Warner had a distinguished career with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company during which he worked under contract to the United States Air Force in the United States, Germany, the Panama Canal Zone, Holland, Vietnam and Thailand. He was also briefly contracted in support of our NATO Ally, the West German Air Force in the early 1970's. He participated in initial testing and certification of the F15 fighter platform, testing an early model in climatic extremes from artic to desert to tropical conditions in cooperation with the Air Force and subsequently worked with NASA on a special project involving experimental flight controls.
After retiring from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company he and his wife lived in the Lake of the Ozarks area for a few years but opted to return to Lexington where their two sons had been born. Although they lived in many states and briefly Europe as the family grew Bob and Jerry were compelled to return to Lexington, which he and his family had always considered home. He was active in the community, serving as the Chairman of the Board on the Lafayette County Health Board and Vice Commander of the VFW of which he was a lifetime member and member of the VFW honor Guard. He was also active in the United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge and the Lions Club.
