Richard Skiles Ring, 85, of the Columbus Community passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Monday, February 6, 2017 at Mt. Tabor Church, 12507 Mt. Tabor Road, Odessa, Missouri. Interment will follow at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 South Second Street, Odessa, Missouri, 816-633-5524. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Tabor Church or the Mt. Tabor Cemetery Association.
Richard was born September 8, 1931, son of Skiles and Mabel (Fulwider) Ring. He attended Crossroads and Miller Schools and later transferred to College High Elementary. Richard graduated from College High in 1949 and attended three years at CMSC. Richard was a resident of the Columbus Community for 85 years except for two years in the army stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Richard was united in marriage to Helen Louise Clark on April 5, 1953. They have resided in the Columbus Community for 63 years. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and held several positions on the church council. Richard also served as president of the Johnson County Young Farmers organization and was a long time trustee of the Columbus Christian Church. He was a very active part of the Johnson County Fair Association and Johnson County Pork Producers. Richard was noted for cooking pork burgers for local organizations. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Holden On’s and the Bee Square Dance Club. Richard was a farmer. He also worked at Bendix and retired after ten years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; two sons, Clark Ring and wife Debbie of Holden and Stephen Ring and wife Nancy of Centerview; three grandsons, Brian Ring and wife Jessica, Derrick Ring and wife Molly, and Daniel Ring and wife Sara; one granddaughter Kaylen Newton and husband Grant; four great grandchildren, Jaden and Ella Ring, and Emma and Kelsey Newton; three nephews, Larry Apprill and wife Vivian, Mike Apprill, and Don Apprill and wife Anna Mae; a host of nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Lucilla Whiteman of South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Katherine Apprill.
Richard loved his family and community.
Pallbearers will be Brian Ring, Derrick Ring, Daniel Ring, Kaylen Newton, Jaden Ring, and Kyle McCarthy. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Apprill, Mike Apprill, Don Apprill, Galen Harmon and Dale Jarman.
