Richard was born November 22, 1952 in Independence to Lester and Shirley Langford Hurley.  He was Navy Vietnam Veteran and later worked as a sheet rock contractor. 

Survivors include two brothers, Ronald Hurley of Blue Springs and Lester Hurley of North Carolina.
