Richard Clifton Gammon, 86, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Oak Grove Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Grove, MO.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Richard was born on February 20, 1932 in Independence, MO to James Roger and Jewell (Neer) Gammon. He graduated in 1950 from Odessa High School in Odessa, MO. On March 29, 1952 he married Clara Fay (Field) Gammon in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2011. Richard served in the United States Army from September 30, 1952 until being honorably discharged on September 29, 1954. During his time in the Army he served in the Korean War and earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, a Commendation Ribbon, UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Richard retired from Sears in 1990 after 36 years of service, he was a Stationary Engineer in the Power House. He was Christian by faith. Richard served as the Scout Master of Troop 286 during the 60’s. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Richard enjoyed traveling, bluegrass shows and high school football.
Survivors include four children, Richard Clifton Gammon, II and wife Susan of Centropolis, Kansas, James W. Gammon and wife Carol of Lone Jack, MO, Pamela Faye Gammon-Buesing and husband Billy of Grain Valley, MO and Michael Alan Gammon and wife Mari of Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandchildren, Richard C. Gammon, III, Jennifer Michelle Gammon-LaFave and husband Nathan, James Ryland Buesing and Kassie Joe Gammon; two great grandchildren, Lillian and Isabelle LaFave.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
