Richard "Dick" Leland Martin, 82, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday May 9, 2016 at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 2200 N. Blue Mills Rd., Independence, MO, 64058 with Celebrant Father Joseph Matt officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the church with a visitation to follow from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery in Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a future scholarship fund in memory of Richard Martin, please make checks payable to Kimberley Hayes. Richard was born on December 13, 1933 in Independence, MO to Ignatius Leland and Dorothy Olivia (Johnson) Martin. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Independence, MO. After high school he attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. Richard retired after 42 years from TWA as a Maintenance Coordinator. He married Rosemary (Grant) Martin on January 21, 1955 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Rosemary preceded him in death on February 8, 2009. Richard was a member of the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Independence, MO. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he liked traveling, reading, history, taking care of his yard and beloved dog Clancey.
Survivors include three children, Rick Martin and wife Kimberly of Seguin, TX, Kim Hayes of Independence, MO and Jeff Martin and wife Lisa of Independence, MO; eight grandchildren, Stephen Hayes, John Hayes and wife Victoria, Jeffrey Martin II, Katie Hayes, Chris Martin, Katelyn Martin, Ryan Martin, Kyle Martin and wife Megan; three great grandchildren, Sophia Michele Martin-Tirre, Jack Leland Hayes and Leland Anthony Martin; and a sister, Barbara Ann Crank of Hot Springs, AR.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by a son Christopher Joseph Martin in infancy and a sister Mary Martha Martin.
Pallbearers are: Stephen Hayes, John Hayes, Jeffrey Martin II, Chris Martin, Ryan Martin and Kyle Martin
