David Allen Barker, 94, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23 at the Greenton Baptist Church with Reverend David Howie officiating. Visitation will be held Monday April 22, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. www.ralphojones.com. David was born on April 30, 1918 to Elmer M. and Dora Mae (Day) Barker. In October of 1934 he was baptized. He was a member of the Greenton Baptist Church. In May of 1946 he was united in marriage to Lorene "Rene" Leona Murry, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2010. David worked at Lake City Munitions before going to the service. He served in World War II from 1944 to 1945. He was awarded many medals throughout his service to the United States Army including the Purple Heart. After the service he attended the Howard Pollard Farm School and the family moved to the farm on Greenton Hill in 1955 to 1979. Survivors include, four children, Muriel Lee Hawkins of Grain Valley, MO, Larry Dean Barker of Odessa, MO, Mary Jane Reed and husband James of Wellington, MO and Allie Jo Beissenherz and husband Bruce of Wellington, MO; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a sister Norma Jean Murry of Odessa, MO; and a brother Charles Wayne Barker, Sr., of Odessa, MO; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Marion Elaine in infancy.
