Ralph “Buddy” Hicks, Jr., 91, Husband of Lorene “Renie” (Hughes) Hicks passed away Saturday August 22, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa, Surrounded by his loving family.

Buddy was born on May 10, 1924 in Antioch, California to Ralph Edmond Hicks, Sr. and Bessie Beatrice (Barbara) Hicks. On December 31, 1949 he married the love of his life Lorene “Renie” (Hughes) Hicks in Sedalia, MO. Buddy and Renie was happily married for 65 years. Buddy retired in 1981 from the Safeway Warehouse for grocery distribution located in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a member of the Local Union 955.

In addition to his wife Renie, Buddy is survived by a daughter, Connie Schaefer and husband Mike of Jefferson City, MO; two grandchildren, Brad Schaefer and wife Julie and Joey Schaefer, All of Jefferson city, MO; one great grandson, Porter Schaefer of Jefferson City, MO and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by a grandson Thomas Schaefer; three brothers, Kenneth, Jimmie and Bobby Hicks; and one sister, Dottie Bishop.

Buddy was a generous, kind, caring man who loved friends and family, especially his daughter and grandchildren. During his free time, Buddy enjoyed traveling with family and friends, watching his beloved Cubs play baseball on tv, playing cards and board games with family and friends, gardening, fishing, cracking jokes, shooting sparrows off his martin house, Saturday night dancing and watching his grandsons and other family members children’s sporting events and activities. He will be greatly miss by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524 with Pastor Wendy Minshall officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, MO.
