Patricia Jean

Patricia Lauer Cox died at the Riverbend Heights Care Center in Lexington, MO on Thursday, December 11, 2014. She was born June 1, 1923 in Mt. Union, Iowa to Harry Lauer and Hazel Gabeline Lauer. She was married to Morris Cox in Tyler, Texas on June 27, 1945. Patricia graduated from the University of Missouri in 1944 with a Music Major in Voice. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Cox was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where over the years she served as Clerk of Session, President of the Women of the Church, Circle Chairperson, and a longtime member of the Choir. Patricia and her husband, Morris, opened Coxs Corner Gift Shop at Ninth and Main Street, Lexington in 1949. They operated this store until September 1, 1952 when they purchased Hix Brothers at 1128 Main Street. They changed to store name to Coxs Department Store and operated it until April 17, 1971. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Morris B. Cox. She is survived by one son, Douglas Morris Cox, and one daughter, Harriet Elizabeth Cox, both of Lexington. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Anatasia Elise Brock of Lexington, and Elizabeth Anne Brock McTaggart (Cory) of Watseka, Illinois, and five great grandchildren, as well as her cousin, Ward Gabeline of Burlington, Iowa, his wife, Treena, and their three sons. A visitation will be held at the Presbyterian Disciple Church, 914 Franklin Avenue, Lexington, MO on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery on 20th Street in Lexington, Missouri.
