Omer G. Kolkmeyer, 87, a lifelong resident of Wellington, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the St. Luke Evangelical Free Church, 700 W. Highway 224, Wellington, MO, 64097. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday April 12, 2015 at the church. Burial with Military Rites will be in the St. Luke Cemetery. Omer was born on May 23, 1927 in Wellington, MO to Erwin O. “E.O.†and Sophia (Beckman) Kolkmeyer. On April 30, 1950 he married Dorothy (Welter) Kolkmeyer in Levasy, MO, who survives of the home. Omer was drafted into the United States Army on January 15, 1952, served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on December 23, 1953. On July 15, 1955 Omer and Dorothy purchased Taylor Oil Company in Wellington and changed the name to Wellington Oil & Gas Co. He and Dorothy are members of the St. Luke Evangelical Free Church. Omer served 14 years on the Wellington City Council and many years as a volunteer firefighter on the Wellington-Napoleon Fire & Ambulance. He was a member of the Borgman-Osthoff American Legion Post 134 and the Wellington AARP. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Omer liked to go square dancing, woodworking, making everyone laugh with a good joke.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, Omer is survived by three children, Ardith Sloan and husband Andrew of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Glen Kolkmeyer and wife Lisa of Odessa, MO and Anita Edmonds and husband David of Lexington, MO; six grandchildren, Nathan Sloan and wife Laura, Eric Kolkmeyer and wife Heidi, Emily Kolkmeyer-Wilson and husband Brian, Derek Edmonds and wife Kati and Bailey Edmonds; seven great grandchildren, Aleah and Lucas Kolkmeyer, Ean and Zoe Wilson and Caleb, Elijah and Anna Sloan; one brother Norman Kolkmeyer and wife Dorothy of Wellington, MO.
In addition to his parents, Omer was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Abbie Edmonds.
