Mary Margaret Robinson

Mary Margaret (Peggy) Robinson, a retired educator, passed away on November 10, 2023 at ANew Healthcare in Odessa, MO.  She was born on March 26, 1924 at home on the family farm in Johnson County, MO, the daughter of Nellie (Thompson) McCarthy and David Elvin McCarthy. 

Mary graduated from Odessa High School in 1943 and from Central Missouri State Teachers College (now the University of Central Missouri) in 1946.  She taught high school home economics for 41 years at Appleton City, Odessa, Wellington, Grain Valley, Independence Chrisman and Independence Truman.  She was a beloved teacher who taught more than 6,000 students.

Mary married George A. Robinson on September 28, 1946 in Leavenworth, KS.  He preceded her in death on January 4, 1980.  They had one daughter, Phyllis Yvonne.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa, Independence Retired School Personnel Association and Missouri Retired Teachers Association.

Mary is survived by her daughter of Odessa, MO; a sister, Barbara Nell McCarthy of Loveland, CO; and many nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maxine McCarthy Mace, and brothers, Thomas Elvin McCarthy, Marion Thompson McCarthy and David Dale McCarthy.

Mary requested that a funeral service not be held at her passing.  Consistent with her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for medical research.  A Family Hosted Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm, Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Greenton Baptist Church, 9345 Greenton Rd., Odessa, MO.
