MARY FRANCES BURKHARDT
Mary Frances Stephens Burkhardt , 85, of Waverly, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at KU Medical Center. Funeral services will be Monday, February 20, 2017 at 2:00pm at Walker Nadler Fuller Funeral Home, Lexington. Visitation will also be on Monday from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Burial will be in the Waverly Cemetery.
Frances was born August 24, 1931, the daughter of Oren and Meredith Bryant Stephens. On May 22, 1949 she married Calvin Theodore Burkhardt in Independence. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1994. She was a homemaker. Frances was an avid bowler and card player. She was a member of Salem Baptist and attended Grand Pass United Church of Christ. She attended the UCC Women's Fellowship.
Frances is survived by her children, Gail Orear and husband Pat of Waverly, Ted Burkhardt and wife Linda of Waverly, Phyllis Corbin and husband Tom of Waverly, Therrsa Gilpin and husband Doug of Holt and LaDonna Philipps and husband Steve of Dover; a daughter in law, Yvonne Burkhardt of Waverly; brothers, Robert Elihu and wife Kay of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Larry Stephens and wife Mary Lois of Youngstown, Florida; sisters, JoAnn Ridder and husband Arnold of Grand Junction, Colorado and Betty Mayfield of Independence; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Dwight Burkhardt; brothers, Charles Stephens, Oren Stephens, Jr., James Stephens and Buddy Stephens; and sisters Lois Burton, Agnes Mart and Zenda Grant.
Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital.
