James Lewis Dutton, 87, of Odessa, Missouri passed away Thursday, November 08, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Odessa, MO with Reverend Clint Coffey officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in rural Odessa, MO. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Odessa or Asera Care Hospice. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ralphojones.com James was born on December 18, 1924 in Independence, MO to Edson Jay and Alta (Barham) Dutton. James served in the United States Army from March 12, 1943 to November 1, 1945. During that time he served in World War II and earned five bronze stars for the Campaigns of Rome-Arno, South France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Naples-Foggia. On September 17, 1948 he married Bonnie Irene Westerhold in Odessa, MO who survives of the home. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Odessa. In 1983 James retired from Sprint as a Telephone Technician. Jim was a member of the Odessa V.F. W. Post 5675, a charter member of the Independent Telecommunication Pioneer Organization and the George A. Hearne Chapter of The Pioneer Local in Warrensburg, MO. In his spare time he loved to go hunting and fishing He was a great craftsman and spent many hours woodworking. Jim and Bonnie traveled to Arizona yearly. One of the things Jim looked forward to each year was attending his Army unit reunion. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, James is survived by two children, Jimmie Dutton of Warrensburg, MO and Sandra McAfee and husband Kenneth of Orrick, MO; a granddaughter, Kenda Ransom and husband Steve of Orrick, MO; a great grandson, Dane Ransom and a great granddaughter Sophia Ransom; one brother Robert Dutton and wife Dora of Tucson, Arizona and a sister Vera Smith of Warrensburg, MO; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edson Dutton and Barham Dutton; a sister Gertude Dilley.
