Robert Henry Taasaas, 56 of Pasco, Washington passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at his home. Mr. Taasaas was born in Moorhead, MN and spent his high school years in Excelsior Springs, Missouri where he graduated in 1974. After graduation, Mr. Taasaas enlisted in the United States Army and was an Engineer. He served in several duty stations including Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Drum, NY and Heidelberg, Germany. Mr. Taasaas left the military and traveled throughout Europe and then began working for the Army Corps of Engineers. He transferred back to the United States with the Corps and worked at Ft. Monroe, VA and then in 2008 transferred to Pasco, WA and lived until his death. Mr. Taasaas attended Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs, MO prior to his enlistment in the military. He had a love for fishing, hunting, traveling and was an exceptional artist. He was in the process of moving back to Missouri to be with his family at the time of his death. His fondest memories were spending summers in Minnesota at the family lake cottage in Detroit Lakes, MN. Mr. Taasaas is preceded in death by his Mother, DyAnn C. Mapes, a sister, Terri L. Wise, and a niece, Fawna M. Wise. He is survived by sisters Dana L. Mapes-Bamvakais of Odessa, MO; Deanna L. Mapes-Jones of Overland Park, KS; a brother Justin Dean Mapes of Excelsior Springs, MO; cousin Dona E.A. Richter of St. Francis, MN and many nieces and nephews. He will be laid to rest at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are pending.
