Mark Steven Malott

Mark S. Malott, 58, passed away July 21, 2015, after a valiant battle with rare neuroendocrine carcinoma. Above all, Mark was a family man, good friend, and good neighbor to all he knew. Mark was born on April 9, 1957 in Independence, MO. He retired after a 30-year career from the Kansas City Air Route Traffic Control Center as an Air Traffic Controller, most recently as Military Operations Specialist, but his true passion was his farm.

Mark and wife Linda (Byam) raised son Chris, and triplets Chance, Sarah and Molly in Grain Valley, Oak Grove and Odessa, Missouri. His life-long love of farming led to a membership in the Lafayette County Cattlemen’s Association. In addition, Mark was well known in the Odessa and Mayview communities and was a member of the Mayview Lions Club, University of Missouri Extension Council, Mount Hope #476 AF & AM and past member of the Lafayette County Planning and Zoning and Lafayette County 4-H Fair Board.

Mark’s biggest love was Linda and time with family. He enjoyed Linda’s cooking, teasing those he loved, history, travel, country music events, sports and HeeHaw! Mark also enjoyed weekly card games with his friends at “The Shop”.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda, son Chance, daughters Molly and Sarah, and son Chris Cox, his wife Adrienne, and granddaughters Isabella and Sydney; his mother Carolyn Malott, brother Matt Malott and wife Vicki, sister Janet Williams and husband Lloyd; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Malott, a brother Mike Malott, and niece Terri Anne Malott.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Odessa, 301 S. 1st st., Odessa, MO, 64076, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Odessa with Pastor Wendy Minshall and Reverend Bob Maffitt officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Odessa, Lafayette County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship Fund, or Mt. Tabor Cemetery Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524.
