Loyce June (Cartwright) Shortt, 85, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at The Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs, MO.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. A private family Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Odessa. Loyce was born on August 20, 1936 in Kansas City, KS to Harvey and Gladys (Smitherman) Cartwright. She graduated from Mayview High School and received her master’s degree in Education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. On January 18, 1957, she married Charles “Chuck” Darrell Shortt in Odessa, MO. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2008. Loyce retired after 38 years of teaching from the Odessa School District. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Loyce enjoyed shopping and gardening.
Survivors include two children, Stephanie Hooper and husband Sean of Osceola, MO and Steven Shortt and companion Alicia McManaman of Seminole, Florida; one granddaughter, Brooke Hooper; and several nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Loyce was preceded in death by a brother Marvin Cartwright.
