Lois Fern Coulter, 86, Independence, MO, formerly of Lexington, died on July 25, 2019. Lois was born on Mar. 21, 1933 in rural Taylor County, near Bedford, Iowa. She married Bill Coulter on Aug. 8, 1954, and they were married for nearly 55 years. She attended Frog Valley School, a one-room school for grades 1-8, and then graduated from Bedford High School in 1951. She attended Northwest Missouri State University and later finished her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Central Missouri. She taught Kindergarten in Sidney, Iowa for one year and then was a first grade and special education teacher at Leslie Bell Elementary in Lexington for many years. She continued to serve as a substitute teacher in the Lexington School District for several years after retirement. She was a member of the Presbyterian Disciples Church. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Carl and Hazel Marley, and her brother, Robert Marley. She is survived by two sons, Mike and wife Leasa, Grain Valley, MO; Tim and wife Brenda, Independence, MO; and four grandsons, Matt Coulter and Turiya Goetz, Kansas City, MO; John Coulter and Angela McCormick, Los Angeles, CA; Chris Coulter and wife Peyton, Independence, MO; and Mark Coulter, Oak Grove, MO. A graveside service for family members was held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
