Lester Eugene Luehrs, 81, of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 806 S. Bus. Hwy 13, Lexington, MO, 64067. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will follow in the Lexington Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the Margaret Gray Center. Lester was born on March 28, 1940, in Higginsville, MO to Herman Henry and Renata Laura Katherine (Schmidt) Luehrs. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1957. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army and earned the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, Lester enrolled at Wentworth Military Academy and completed his Business Associates Degree. On September 12, 1964, he married Virginia Lee Best in Richmond, MO. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1997. Lester worked for Allis Chalmers in Independence, MO for many years. After leaving Allis Chalmers Lester joined the Air Force Reserves and went to work for Yellow Freight as a loss claims specialist. After retiring he worked for Allstar Bail Bonds part time. Lester was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and held many positions within the church throughout the years. He was also a member of the American Legion, American War Dad, and Ponderosa Club. Lester volunteered many hours for Habitat for Humanity. He was also an avid Chiefs, Royals, and Tiger’s fan. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Lester enjoyed walking around town, attending his grandkids sporting events, visiting with folks at the Margaret Gray Center and riding around.
Survivors include two children, Chris Luehrs and wife Sheri of Lexington, MO and Valerie Luehrs of Lee’s Summit, MO; two grandchildren, Derrick Jesse Luehrs and Lacey Virginia Luehrs; one sister, Joyce Mittie and husband Larry of Lee’s Summit, MO; and two brothers, Larry Luehrs and wife Sheila of Lexington, MO and Jim Luehrs of Hickory, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Davis; and two sisters-in-law, Berta Luehrs and Susan Luehrs.
