Leona “Onie” (Clouse) Darnell, 87 of Lexington, Missouri, passed away on October 28, 2022, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, MO.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Dover Cemetery Association or Shirkey Hospice. Memorials may be left in care of the funeral home. Onie was born on October 15, 1935, in Lexington to Jake E. and Nora E. (Huffman) Clouse. On March 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gene Clifford Darnell in Dover, MO. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2001. Onie was a homemaker and a businesswoman. She was a waitress for many years at the Victory “Maibs” Restaurant. She also owned a women’s clothing store, The Strawberry Patch, and a beauty shop, Leona’s Coiffure in Lexington. Onie also prepared many meals at the Lafayette County Jail during Gene’s tenure as County Sheriff. Onie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews of the Clouse and Darnell families. As well as longtime friend, Peggy Guilford.
Onie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Glenn, Wilmon, J.C. and Gerald “Buddy” Clouse; and sisters, Ruby Graham, Velma Harrison, Lucille Sell, Margie Littlejohn, and an infant sister, Dorothy.
