Larry Vernon Hicks, 70, of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at home.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO, 20109 E. Business Hwy 13, Higginsville, MO, 64037. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Lexington V.F.W Post 4052, 3109 Franklin Ave., Lexington MO, 64067. Memorials are suggested to the Lexington V.F.W. Larry was born on August 22, 1949 in Excelsior Springs, MO to Vernon and Norma (Thompson) Hicks. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1967 and attended trade school for HVAC. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Larry earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Commendation Medal 1 OLC, Good Conduct Medal and the Air Medal. He was honorably discharged November 10, 1970. He was a Life Member of the Lexington V.F.W. Post 4052 and the American Legion. Larry worked for 11 years for Independence Power & Light as a lineman and then went to work for Lake City Ammunitions for 17 years until retiring in 2000. Larry married Della Sue (Nelson) Hicks on August 26, 2000 in Lexington, MO. She survives of the home. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, boating and was an avid sports fan.
Larry is survived by his wife, Della Hicks of Lexington, MO; three children, Kimberly Levy and husband Jim of Odessa, MO, Colonel Chris Hackler and wife Sunny of Burke, Virginia and Joseph Martin Hackler and wife Pam of Holt Summit, MO; six grandchildren, Kyle Levy, Ian Levy, George Liam Hackler, Emma Hackler, Alex Hackler and Fiona Hackler; two brothers, Buddy Hicks of Henrietta, MO and Rick Hicks of Richmond, MO; three sisters, Pam Root and husband Mike of Richmond, MO, Jenny Hicks and companion Mark Beatty of Shellsburg, Iowa and Robin Hicks Sammons of Richmond, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Levy.
