Kenneth Ray Murry, 85, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO 64076, with Reverend Larry Neil officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the church. Burial with Military Rites will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or Kansas City Hospice House. Kenneth was born on October 5, 1930 in Odessa, MO to Daniel and Georgia (Booker) Murry. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served from August 15, 1949 until he was Honorably Discharged on December 15, 1952. On October 11, 1953 he married Betty (Griffey) Murry in Odessa, MO. Kenneth retired in 1991 from Honeywell manufacturing formerly Bendix as a Senior Process Engineer. He was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, VBS bus driver, and member of the Choir. He also helped in the construction of the original church building. Kenneth was a member of the AM Vets Post 100 in Odessa, the Mt. Hope Masonic Lodge #476, and the NRA. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Ken enjoyed telling a good joke, fishing, hunting, traveling, playing his guitar, and watching baseball.
In addition to his wife Betty, Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Linda Durrill and husband Stephen of Odessa, MO and Kathy Friend and husband John of Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy Durrill and wife Christina of Odessa, Joshua Durrill and wife Kelly of Stoutland, MO, Jennifer Friend of Kansas City, MO, Rachael Sanchez and husband Eben of Kansas City, MO and Katie Terry and husband Jeremy of Kansas City, MO; nine great grandchildren, Colton Durrill, Jonah Durrill, Jase Durrill, Samuel Durrill, Thaddeus Durrill, Marley Sanchez, Faith Sanchez, Chloe Terry, and Johnathan Terry; one brother, Earl Murry and wife Alline of Odessa, MO and a sister, Reba Owings and husband Don of Odessa, MO and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Milford Murry; and six sisters, Clydie Adams, Edna Grubb, Gracie Knight, Bernice Barker, Elberta Brown and Esther Brockmeyer.
