Karen Maxine Johnson

Karen Maxine (Nims) Johnson, 76, of Chilhowee, Missouri passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 301 S. 1st St., Odessa, MO, 64076. Visitation will be held one hour prior starting at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the church. Graveside services will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Bridgeport Cemetery in rural Maquoketa, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America Heart of America Council. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ralphojones.com or on our Facebook Page.

Karen was born on January 3, 1940 in Murry, Utah to Carson Lawrence Nims and Vivienne Lucille (Krolick) Nims. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1957. Karen was united in marriage to Howard Whitney Johnson II on July 29, 1962. He preceded her in death in 1981. Karen earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. She taught high school physical science in the Holden School District. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clinton, MO. Karen worked several years as a Partylite Consultant. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Karen enjoyed playing bingo and singing in the Warrensburg Community Chorus.

Survivors include three children, a step-daughter, Mary Aline Johnson of Cordova, Tennessee, a daughter, Belinda Johnson and fiancée Joe Bonello of Kansas City, MO and a son, Howard Johnson IV and wife Jennifer of Odessa, MO; five grandchildren, Jenna Soltys of Greeley, Colorado, Evan Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, Whitney Johnson, William Johnson, and Wilson Johnson all of Odessa, MO; two brothers, John Zismer of Maquoketa, IA and Ted Nims of Maquoketa, IA; two sisters, Sheila Nims of Greenville, South Carolina and Laurel David of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
