Joyce Elaine (Kintzele) McCoy, 89, of Wellington, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Joyce was born on August 22, 1935, in Michigan City, Indiana, the first of three daughters born to the marriage of Henry J. (Bud) Kintzele and Mildred Mae (Kull) Kintzele. Joyce was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) H. Barnes on July 19, 1953. On December 22, 2008, he preceded her in death. While living in Springfield Township, LaPorte County, Indiana Joyce served as 1st Deputy to LaPorte County Auditors, Joseph Farina and James Bell, then as 1st Deputy to County Recorder, James Snyder, Joyce also served as Secretary to the LaPorte County Democratic Committee. She moved to Lawrence, Michigan in 1968 where the family continued to raise registered quarter horses and some commercial beef cattle and meat rabbits. Joyce drove a school bus for the Lawrence School District and was then employed by the Cherry Administrative Board until its termination in 1988. She followed that job by taking employment with Monte Sternaman of Sternaman & Associates, handling grant applications and administering those approved grants. Joyce was very active in county youth projects. She served in several capacities of the Junior Livestock Producers Association, The Horse Council, the Small Market Animal Committee and the Van Buren Youth Fair and served for 25 years as a 4-H Leader. She and her husband moved to Willow Springs, MO in 1992 following a colon cancer discovery. There she began employment with the U.S. Forest Service. Income qualifications terminated the job there and she gained employment as an office clerk with White Industries, Inc. (a metal fabrication business). She retired in December of 2005 following her father’s death. She then participated in part-time work at MFA Propane. Joyce was active in the United Methodist Church in Willow Springs, MO and an active member of the Women’s Fellowship. She did volunteer work at M.U.N.C.H., the local thrift store. She chaired and campaigned for the Red Cross Blood Drives at the church for many years. She especially enjoyed entering the Christos House annual Chocolate Festival and was fortunate to win a few ribbons in that event.
Joyce enjoyed a special friendship with Edward Lee Bledsoe from 2014 to 2019 and then was united in marriage to Robert Dale (R.D.) McCoy at the Wellington United Methodist Church on January 7, 2022. Joyce and R.D. enjoyed dancing and “showing their stuff” at local dances. In some of the last chapters of her life, Joyce also enjoyed eating out with R.D. at some of her favorite places like Olive Garden and the Spotted Pig. She enjoyed spending time riding with R.D. on his adventures scouting for good logging trees.
Joyce is survived by her husband Robert Dale (R.D.) McCoy of Wellington, MO; four children, Linda (George) Getz of Benton Harbor, MI, Michael (Marcia) Barnes of Horton, MI, Ginger Barnes of West Plains, MO, and Bobbye Jo (Ralph) Payton of Gordon, NE; one step daughter, Brenda (Tommy) Dumas of Odessa, MO; seven grandchildren, Autumn (Joe) Wright of Paw Paw, MI, Anthony “Tony” Koppers of Mattawan, MI, John Barnes of Jackson, MI, Michael (Sarah) Barnes, Jr. of Jackson, MI, Kelly (Jason) Kuhl of Jackson, MI, Nathan (Megan) Cevasco of Orange Park, FL, and Chelena (Trevor) Evans of Chadron, NE; five step-grandchildren, Falynn Dumas, Chloeanne Fulbright, Christopher Fulbright, Nick Fulbright, and Trey Fulbright; eleven great grandchildren, one sister, Peggy (Ralph) Fusco of Venice, FL and Diane Burda of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by both parents, Henry John Kintzele, Jr. and Mildred Mae Kintzle; her first husband of 55 years, Richard H. Barnes; and a sister Diane Burda.
