John “Woody” Robert Woodruff, 89 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018 at North Kansas City, Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday January 2, 2019 at the McKendree Cemetery, HH Hwy. and McKendree Rd. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Woody was born on August 10, 1929 in Lexington, MO to Robert and Elva (Hufford) Woodruff. He graduated from East High School in KC, MO. On November 6, 1949 he married Mary Anne Louise (Malley) Woodruff in Vallejo, California. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2008. Woody was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II until he was Honorably Discharged. He retired 1979 from Civil Service at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, MO. After retirement Woody would take on a second career for the Royals as the Assistant Stadium Maintenance Coordinator from 1980 until his second retirement in 1995. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 217 in Warsaw, MO, Charter Member and Pilgrim of the Kansas City Moose Lodge Post 2414, life member of the DAV Chapter 2 in Kansas City and a member of the Marine Corps League in Kansas City.
Survivors include five children, Sandy Bribiesca and husband Tommy of Kansas City North, MO, Robert “Bob” Woodruff and wife Diane of Odessa, MO, Tina Myers and husband Bob of Pleasant Hill, MO, Pat Taylor of Grain Valley, MO, and Tim Woodruff of Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Joann Guenther of Raytown, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parent and wife, Woody was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Macey; a son-in-law, Bobbie Taylor; and two brothers, George and Jim Woodruff.
