John “Jack” Laman Peddicord

John “Jack” Peddicord, 96, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri.
The family will host a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Missouri Veterans Home Chapel in Warrensburg, 1300 Veterans Way, Warrensburg, MO 64093, with Chaplain Lawrence Adams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home.
Jack was born on March 13, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to Norman and Annie (Lovol) Peddicord. He entered the Navy submarine service in 1944, the day he turned seventeen. Jack was assigned to the USS Carp SS-338 submarine whose mission during WWII was to circle Japan and sink cargo ships in the southwest Pacific. The USS Carp SS-338 sunk several Japanese cargo ships. Jack was a baker and was also an ammunition passer, passing 5 inch shells to the gunner. He achieved the rank of Seaman.
Upon his discharge in 1946, Jack returned to Baltimore and married the love of his life Margaret “Peggy” Reynolds on October 4, 1947. Jack retired from Sears in Kansas City, Missouri where he was a Merchandise Manager and worked for the corporation for thirty-four years. Jack and Peggy enjoyed traveling Europe together and with friends. He liked drawing, painting, traveling around the countryside with his son Jim while he treated animals in his veterinary practice and watching his grandchildren compete in various sporting events.
Jack is survived by his two children, Dr. James Peddicord and wife Renée of Odessa, MO and Ms. Karen Jackson of Reno, Nevada; three grandchildren, Eryn Peddicord of Lee’s Summit, MO, Lauren Speer and husband Peter of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jimmy Peddicord and wife Jenni of Parkville, MO; three great grandchildren, Jenna, William, and Brooke Speer; a very special cousin Diane Davis of Raytown, MO; and many other special family and friends.
Jack was predeceased by Peggy on September 22, 2015 and his parents.
