John Garland Banks, 62, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Visitation will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Woods Chapel Cemetery. John was born on March 2, 1954 in Odessa, MO to Ira and Violet (Dodge) Banks. He graduated from Odessa High School. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years and was Honorably Discharged December 17, 1976. While in the Navy John was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Award. After being Honorably Discharged John transferred to the Navy Reserves and retired from the Airforce Reserve. He married Connie Ellen (Bachtel) Banks on March 28, 1998 in Odessa, MO. John retired from Honeywell as a Telemetry Technician after 35 years. He was Methodist by faith. John and Connie were Foster Parents for several years. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, John enjoyed creating metal yard art, fishing, tinkering outside and loved to hand out candy to anyone who would accept it.

In addition to his wife Connie, John is survived by four children, Travis Banks of Odessa, MO, Jodi Hall and husband Keith of Carrollton, MO, Tony Perry and wife Thea of Carrollton, MO and Brandon Bushell and companion Christina Poort of Lexington, MO; three brothers, Everette Banks and wife Vicki of Rich Hill, MO, William “Shorty” Banks of Lexington, MO and Dennis Banks and wife Oakie of Tacoma, Washington; two sisters, Rebecca Burcham of Windsor, MO and Vickie Lopez of Tulsa, OK; special friends, Roy and Kathy Marier of St. Paul, Minnesota and Deb Pittman of Excelsior, MN; a special nephew, Brandon Turney of Butler, MO and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Iris Stout.

Pallbearers will be: Roy Marier, Brandon Turney, George Suhr, Cory Suhr, Keith Hall, and Scott Mckown
