John A. Thurmon, 92, of Wellington, MO, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at St. Marys Medical Center, Blue Springs. John A. Thurmon was born March 2, 1922 in Wellington, MO the son of Cecil Alexander and Eunice Larkin Thurmon. He married Marylou Peace on May 19, 1962. John was a member of the Wellington United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the Air Force, with the rank of Second Lieutenant, serving as a Navigator. He was a member of Ex-POWs, Wellington Lions Club, The American Legion, and was a longtime member of the Wellington -Napoleon School Board. John is survived by his wife, Marylou, of the home. Children: Gregory Thurmon and wife, Barb, Fayette, MO, Jennifer Bennett, Emporia, KS, and Melissa Abkemeier and husband, Tom, Fenton, MO. A sister, Patricia Thurmon, Wellington. There are nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Thurmon. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Wellington United Methodist Church. Burial in the Wellington City Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 2 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 South St., Lexington, MO (660)259-2245.
