Joan Virginia (Epperly) Cognard, 88, formerly of Lexington, Missouri passed away June 19, 2022 at home with her family in Kansas City, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 South Street, Lexington, Missouri, 660-259-2245. A funeral service will also be on Friday at the funeral home at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington, Missouri. Joan was born August 23, 1933 in Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Munden) Epperly. Joan married Ronald Cognard on October 20, 1950. Ronald passed away in 1998. She worked at the Wellington Post Office and was a secretary at Lewis Manufacturing for many years. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1995.
Joan was baptized in the Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington. Joan loved her family and loved to travel. She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds. She shared many of her flowers with friends, neighbors and family. Joan took up square dancing after Ronald passed. She danced for twenty years going to many places to dance with friends. She spent winters in Texas and Florida as a snowbird and found warm weather and new friends delightful.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Machelle Elmore and husband Jerry of Kansas City, Missouri and Paula Carter and husband Bruce of Wellington, Missouri; grandchildren, Angelia Guarino and Ben, Tricia Guarino and Joe, Nikole Baker and Eric Carter and Janelle; great grandchildren, Olivia Graning and Austin, Philip Guarino, Joseph Guarino, Carter Rogers, Mya Rogers, Bryson Carter, Brooklyn Carter, Savannah Carter and Reganne Carter; great great grandchildren, Bentley, Hunter and Aiden Graning, and Elias Gibson; one brother, Charles Epperly of Lexington, Missouri and one sister, Deborah Fisher of Dodge City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Cognard; her parents, Mary and Arthur Epperly; granddaughter, Dana Machelle Rogers; brother, Jesse Epperly; nephew, Jim Epperly; and sister-in-law, Doris Epperly.
