Jane Steelman, 80, of Kansas City, MO passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at home surrounded by family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Tabor Cemetery Association Odessa, MO or your charity of choice. Jane was born on July 5, 1935 to Goldon and Leonard Hobbs in Odessa, MO. After graduating from Odessa High school in 1953, she moved to Kansas City, MO, working at Travelers Insurance and BMA Insurance companies. Jane married her high school sweetheart, John Steelman, on December 31, 1955. She soon became a fulltime homemaker; raising three children, while using her talents for sewing, decorating, painting and gardening. Jane worked with her husband, John, at the AAA office of Independence, MO for ten years until they both retired in 1999. From maintaining their gardens, to browsing antique stores, or just reading side by side, she most enjoyed their time spent together.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Goldon (Hobbs) Barker and Leonard Hobbs, her step-parents, Louise Hobbs and Otis Barker; and her step-brother Don Brown.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; their children: Elaine Raymond (Jon), Mark Steelman (Shirley), Karen Wyatt (Joe); her sister, Betty Williams; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and extended family.
