James Robert Thorp, 79 of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
The family will host a Celebration of Life from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Lexington VFW, 3109 Franklin Ave, Lexington, MO 64067. Burial will be in the Lexington Memory Gardens. Memories of James and condolences for his family may be left at

James was born on April 1, 1940 in Lexington, MO to Ralph and Irene (Startin) Thorp. After graduating from Lexington High School, James was united in marriage to Phyllis McGinnis and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. James was the maintenance supervisor for the Lexington R-5 school district. He was the President of the Fort Osage Muzzle Loaders Gun Club. James enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family, friends and grandkids.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Michael Thorp and wife Christy of Lexington, MO; one daughter, Sherry Gray and husband Joe of Lexington, MO; four grandchildren, Morgan Thorp and Kaitlyn Thorp of Lexington, MO, Shelby Gray of Lexington, MO, and Andrew Gray of Higginsville, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Tucker Gray of Higginsville, MO.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
