James Halleran Stewart, 90, of Lexington, passed away December 12, 2018 at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington. Funeral service will be Monday, December 17, 2018 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Lexington. Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Walker Nadler Fuller Funeral Home, Lexington. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or C.A.R. Jim was born February 16, 1928 in Independence to Vernon and Catherine (Halleran) Stewart. He married Frances Woodruff May 24, 1947. They were married 49 years when she passed away. He then married Merrie Dean Hulver June 14, 1998. Jim was a farmer in Lafayette County for 70 years. He loved tinkering with old John Deeres and other machinery. Most recently you would find him checking out the farm on his Gator. He loved farming. Jim was a co-founder of the Mid MO Tractor Club. He had been actively involved in First Baptist Church, Lexington, where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for 35 years. He was also active in 4-H serving as an adult leader while his children were involved with various agricultural projects.
Jim was known for his quick wit, brutal honesty and friendly personality. He will be sorely missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, of the home; children, Kay Ehlert and husband Russell of Lexington, Diane Kintner and husband David of Granville, Ohio and Dennis Stewart and wife Jan of Lenexa, Kansas; brother Fred Stewart and wife Betty of Independence; grandchildren; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and sister Mary Francis Russell.
