James Lawrence Shamrell, 96, of Mayview, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Riverbend Heights Health and Rehabilitation, in Lexington, MO.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Inurnment with military rites will follow at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Association. Condolences for the family may be left at

James was born on July 4, 1918 in Kansas City, MO to Chris and Lilia (Raines) Shamrell. On March 30, 1943, Jim entered into active service with the United States Army. He served in World War II and was decorated with the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal. On December 24, 1945, Jim was Honorably Discharged at Camp Beale, California. After returning from war, Jim worked for the Cook Chemical, CO. as a Purchasing Agent. After retiring from Cook Chemical he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. Jim was Catholic by faith. He enjoyed many years at his home in Lady Lake, Florida. In addition to spending time with his family and friend, his hobbies were golfing, bowling and playing softball.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Willard and husband Bob of Mayview, MO; 3 grandchildren, Jim Willard of Kansas City, MO, Christin Bamman and husband Chris of Grain Valley, MO and Mandy Sappington and husband Scott of Grain Valley, MO; 6 great grandchildren, Michael, Harrison and Isabella Bamman; Ridge, Cole, and Carter Sappington; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ralph, Pat, and Edward Shamrell.
