James Albert Gentet. 88, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Jim was born on June 26, 1928 in Wathena, Kansas to Roy & Jessie I. (MeGonnigal) Gentet. After graduating from high school, James enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged on May 19, 1948. On February 14, 1960 he married Wilma M. (Whitaker) Gentet in Hickman Mills, MO. She preceded him in death on April 2, 1992. James retired from the Kansas City Fire Department as a Captain after 28 years and retired from the Odessa Police Department after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge Post #116 and a past Lafayette County Sheriff Reserve Officer. In addition to spending time with family and friends, James enjoyed fishing, dancing, and being outdoors.
Survivors include two children, Steve M. Anderson and wife Lesley of Kansas City, MO and Lori Stevenson and husband James of Odessa, MO; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Harry Gentet of Eldon, MO; and a companion Carol King of Odessa, MO.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Linda Lhommedieu; and a brother Louis Gentet.
