James Earnest Wolter

April 25, 1928 — July 22, 2013

James Ernest Wolter, 85, of Lake Lafayette, Missouri passed away on July 22, 2013 at the Oak Grove Nursing and Rehab in Oak Grove, MO. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 10, 2013 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Coffey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association, Heartland Chapter - 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ralphojones.com. James was born on April 25, 1928 to Ernest Arthur and Vera Velotte (Gilmore) Wolter in La Crosse, Kansas. James graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO. He is a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. When James returned from World War II he attended the College of Commerce and earned a Business Degree. On March 8, 1949 he married Neta Mae (Blair) Wolter in Reno, Nevada who preceded him in death on April 7, 2001. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1990 where he served the towns of Sugar Creek, Prairie Village, Raytown and Longview. James was a truck driver for the Kansas City Star from 1979-1990 and also a Police Officer for Lake Lafayette for five years. He had a passion for music. James played the guitar, accordion, organ and would write his own music. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Street and husband Mike of Keithville, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Dawn Lafferty and husband Donny of Shreveport, LA and Rick Street and wife Aiden of Oklahoma City, OK; four great grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Dylan Lafferty and Nathan Street; a brother John G. Wolter and wife Jan of St. Louis, MO; two sisters Mary lee Shriner and Phyllis Brown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife James was preceded in death by his step-mother Rachael Irene Wolter and a sister Betty Merys.
