Ilene M. Sheets, 75, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.
A celebration of life will be held from 2-5pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Berry Acres located at 6825 N Hwy 131, Odessa, MO. All friends and family are encouraged to attend and bring photos and stories. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Ilene requested our support to Helping Hands Food Pantry of Odessa, MO. Ilene was born on September 16, 1941 in Marion, North Dakota to Grover K. Knudson and Mary J. Knudson (Young). She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in Excelsior Springs, MO. Ilene earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Sociology and Master’s in Social Gerontology from CMSU in Warrensburg, MO. She retired after over 10 years of service working for the State of Missouri Division of Family Services (DFS) of Jackson and Lafayette County. On July 23, 1965, she married the love of her life, Wayne M. Sheets. She was ordained to the priesthood in 2007 at the Community of Christ Church in Odessa, MO. Ilene was a loving and inspirational woman, wife, mother, grandmother, spiritual leader and cheerleader. She never knew a stranger and never abandoned a friend or animal in need.
Ilene’s legacy lives on through her husband Wayne Sheets of Odessa, MO; four children, Gregory Sheets (Vonda) of Branson, MO, Brett Sheets (Lorri) of Springfield, MO, Stephanie Meierarend (Tim) of Odessa, MO and Kris Sheets (Krissy) of Shawnee, KS; a daughter-in-law Marilyn Strong of Olathe, KS; a brother-in-law Jim Sheets of Kansas City, KS; a sister-in-law, Judy Knudson; fourteen grandchildren, Cody Sheets (Megan), Josey Meierarend, Cali Meierarend, Sydney Sheets, Steven Sheets, Simone Sheets, Tamera Strong, Lucinda Swink (Dillon), Maranda Strong, Wayne Sheets (Jamie), Guy Sheets (Megan), Victoria Puga (Joe), T.J. Dorsey (Samantha) and Brett Dorsey; ten great grandchildren, Mikinzi, Madalyn, Gavin, Kihanna, Liam, Norah, Adeline, Havyen, Devlynn and Gloria Grace, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Grover K. Knudson and Mary J. Knudson, Ilene was preceded in death by a son Randy Strong; and two brothers, Grover R. Knudson and Dennis K. Knudson.
