Howard Henry Block, 91, of Wellington, Missouri passed away February 3, 2023, at his home.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 9:30 until 11:00 am at St. Luke Evangelical Free Church, Wellington. A funeral service will follow at the church on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Interment will be in St. Luke Cemetery, Wellington. Memorials may be made to St. Luke Evangelical Free Church or Allied in Ministry (Wellington Food Pantry). Howard was born January 24, 1932, in Wellington to Henry and Minnie (Kohlsteadt) Block. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1949. He married Mary Cecille Beining on April 3, 1951. They were happily married for 70 years. She preceded him in death August 25, 2021. Howard was a Korean War Army Veteran, earning the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked and lived on the farm for most of his life. He was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Free Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the church council. He was a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion and served on the Wellington Napoleon School Board. Howard also drove a school bus.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Block (Joyce) of Wellington, Chris Block (Janet) of Warsaw and Jeff Block of Wellington; grandchildren, Jeremy Block, Amy Osborn (Scott), Jennifer Paige, Brandon Block, Jessica Block (Phil), Miranda Block (Joseph) and Matthew Block (Geneva); great grandchildren, Kiera Paige (Austin), Alex Osborn (Alex), Keatyn Paige, Molly Osborn, Adam Block, Isaiah Block, Sophia Block and Braytton Block; brother, Alfred Block (Alberta) of Wellington; sister-in-law, Bertha (Bert) Payne of Liberty; and caregivers, Rachel Updegrave, Theresa Tuttle and April Stoenner.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, half-brother, Elmer Block and Brother-in-law, George Payne.
