Helen Lucille Hapes

Helen Lucille (Rockhold) Hapes, 87, of Odessa, Missouri passed away August 22, 2023, at her son’s residence in Hale, Missouri.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home.  A funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Odessa Cemetery. Helen was born April 19, 1936, in Lawrence, Kansas to George Marian and Georgia “Wilma” (Needles) Rockhold. Helen graduated from Vinland High School in 1954. While being a homemaker and raising her family, Helen also worked many years at the garment factory, Midwest Title Company and enjoyed babysitting.  Helen was united in marriage to Harold Lowell Hapes in Kansas City, MO on November 21, 1956. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2004. She was a member of Rolling Meadows Christian Church. Helen volunteered at Show-Me Christian Homes. Along with spending time with family and friends, Helen enjoyed sewing, gardening, and quilting.

Helen is survived by two children, Michael Lee Hapes of Hale, MO and Susan Lynne (Paul) Doberenz of Florence, OR; one step-grandchild, Jamie Nicole Roth of Clinton, MO; one step-great grandchild, Bentley Stephen Stewart; two brothers, Jesse “Leonard” (Alice) Rockhold, and Robert “Bob” (Sharon) Rockhold; and many nieces nephews, relatives, and friends.    

Along with both her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lawrenz and Margaret Gurley; three brothers, Walter “Buck” Rockhold, Glenn Rockhold, and George Lavern “Bernie” Rockhold; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy D. Hapes.
