George Leroy Suhr, 77, of Odessa, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas surrounded by his loving family. 

 

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 South Second Street Odessa, Missouri 64067. A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Odessa, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Mt. George was born on October 9, 1947, in Odessa, Missouri to Ernest Lee Suhr and Anna Belle (Rankin) Yancey. He graduated from Odessa High School. George honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, during which he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Following his military service, he became a valued member of the trucking industry, retiring as a dock worker from Yellow Freight. George was well-known in the community, often seen enjoying his morning coffee at JJ’s Down Home Cafe, where he loved to share stories and laughter with friends and locals alike. He found great joy in simple pleasures—farming, tending to cattle, riding mules, fishing, and coon hunting were among his favorite pastimes. 

George is survived by two children, Codie (Bart) Rucker of Odessa, MO, and Cory Suhr of Odessa, MO; three grandchildren, Emberlynn Blackorby, Baylin Suhr, and Hudson Khan; one brother, Robert Suhr of Blue Springs, MO; and nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee Suhr and Anna Belle (Rankin) Yancey; and a sister, Linda Wade.
