Harold Gene Pryor

Harold “Gene” Pryor, 87, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Independence, Missouri surrounded by family.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 South Second Street, Odessa, Missouri, 64076.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Gene was born on March 10, 1936, in Rural Johnson County Missouri to Tipton and Ada (Smith) Pryor. He graduated from College High School in Warrensburg, Missouri, in 1954. Gene began work as a lineman, and then became a Relay Supervisor for the Missouri Public Service Company. He married Phyllis Coffey on June 15, 1963, in Odessa, MO at the First Baptist Church. Gene was a member of First Baptist Church of Raytown. He loved to work with his hands, played basketball in his younger years and he enjoyed gardening, taking long walks and traveling, Gene spent most of his time with family. You could always see him at his grandson’s ball games and music events.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Coffey) Pryor; his daughter, Kelly (Pryor) Overbay; son in law; Scott Overbay, one grandson; Kory Overbay; one brother, Donald Pryor and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; William Pryor, Olin Pryor, Raymond Pryor, Victor Pryor, Paul Pryor and his sisters; Bernita Urban, Bernice Adams, Althea Adams, Lenora White, Lorena Swisher and May Dean Goodwin.
