Frances LaVern Shurmantine

Frances LaVern (Love) Shurmantine, 99 of Wellington, Missouri passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at home surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery following the funeral. Memorials are suggested to Traditions Hospice. Frances was born on December 29, 1925, in Chapel Hill, MO to Theodore and Mary (Reed) Love. She graduated from Bates City High School. On April 18, 1944, Frances was united in marriage to John “J.D.” Shurmantine in Richmond, Indiana. John preceded her in death on August 3, 1993. Frances was a homemaker taking care of her family and home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Frances loved cooking, gardening, tending to her flowers, and reading.

Frances is survived by six children, John (Brenda) Shurmantine of Wellington, Mary Lou (Kevin) Waller of Wellington, Norma Nordsieck of Wellington, Barbara Stark of Oak Grove, Robert “Bob” (Theresa) Shurmantine of Wellington, and Donald (Geli) Shurmantine of Wellington; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by a son, James Surmantine; a granddaughter, Jennifer Shurmantine; and four sisters, Ethel Pearl Westerburg, Ruby McNeely, Norine Simmerman, and Louise Barker.
