Ernest “Ernie†Harrison Young, 88, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Sunday August, 23, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO surround by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO 64076, 816-633-5524. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Ernie was born on June 17, 1927 in Napoleon, MO to Henry G. and Ida Mae (Krutzmeyer) Young. He joined the United States Merchant Marines and then enlisted into the United States Army on April 8, 1946. Ernie was honorably discharged on January 23, 1947. On June 17, 1972 he married Sue (West) Young in Odessa, MO who survives of the home. He retired from Allis-Chalmers in Independence, MO where he held various jobs over 25 years. Ernie also farmed. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union Local 1958, First Christian Church in Odessa and a Member of the Odessa V.F.W. Post 5675. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Ernie was a hard worker and liked hunting, fishing, gardening, yardwork and his many beloved dogs, especially Molly and Dukie.
In addition to his wife Sue, Ernie is survived by six children, Angela Smith and husband Rob, Brian Young and wife Stephanie, both of Odessa, MO, Alice Schumaker and spouse of Aurora, Colorado, Barbara Stevens of Grandview, MO, Carol Mela and husband Jim of Lee’s Summit, MO and Ernest A. Young and wife Terry of Concordia, MO; thirteen grandchildren including, Nicholas Smith, Evan Young and Sydney Young; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Everett Young and wife Dorothy of Independence, MO; two sisters, Fern Y. Reynolds and husband John of Grain Valley, MO and Bernice Stutzman of Miami, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by two brothers, Dempsey Young and Dr. Thomas Jeff Young.
