Glenda Sue (Mitchell) Cooper, 56, of Bates City, Missouri lost a long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, Crossroads Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ralphojones.com. Glenda was born on November 18, 1956 in Joplin, MO to Charles Glen and Katie Dorothy (Thomas) Mitchell. She was a graduate of Joplin Senior High School. After high school she attended Missouri Southern State University where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree. On November 30, 1982 she married her best friend Dama Cooper in Kansas City, MO, who survives of the home. Glenda retired from the Social Security Administration in 2012 after 22years. She was very active in the Disabled American Veterans Organization where she served as the State Commander in 2012. Glenda had many hobbies which include deer hunting, fishing, cooking and collecting her cat and pig figurines. She and Dama loved to travel, especially to the Black Hills of South Dakota. To date they had been fourteen times. Glenda was a very outgoing person, she was humble and caring and many say they have never met a stronger person. She will be greatly missed by all but never forgotten. In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Deana Bozeman and husband Robert of Independence, MO, Dawn Poole of Kanas City, MO and Dana Cooper of Kansas City, MO; three granddaughters and two great-grandsons; a brother, David Mitchell and wife Zona of Lees Summit, MO; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Mitchell.
